Once again, it is time to celebrate the birth of our great nation. Time to break out the flags and fireworks. Fire up the smoker and cook some ribs. Make sure you have plenty of potatoe salad, apple pie and watermelon. I know I will be smoking the ribs this year, so I am going to WOW everyone with my special recipe.
This will be the first July 4th I have spent with my family in about 10 years. I have been living out of state. In that time, I have learned a few tricks on the smoker and so I will be doing the family test this year.
I don't know that there will be many fireworks unless there is a heated family argument. Then there will probably be more shooting off the mouth than anything. Just kidding. We tend to keep our grudges to ourselves and wait to talk about each other until we go home.
Just a few tips for the holidays. Remember that you are an American, it is appropriate to fly an American flag. I know they are flying the mexican flag in California now, but they always were a little ahead of the rest of the country. Fireworks were intended for fun and pleasure, and should not be used to injure or scare. It is okay to spike your watermelon, but please let others know. Try not to drink and drive, but if you must remember they will be doing a sobriety and insurance checkpoint on Highway 165, courtesy of your local State Police.
